🧠 You’re Going to Lobe This One

When your in-house brainiacs lobe a challenge, building client-requested smartx features is a no-brainer.

Hey, smartx-ers,

What’s grey, mushy, and tells you to open your email?

Your brain 🧠, eager for another product update! So without further ado, we present to you new toggles and key values that are sure to keep your 1,5 kg life companion mirthfully content.

Memorise keys, not values šŸ˜…

Custom key-value targeting is essential for some media owners using smartx. However, unless you are a fan of memorising the cryptic values that are paired with each key, any key-value pair beyond Female = 1 and Male = 2 can get complicated real fast.

To save us some brain power, we revamped the Key-Value targeting so that smartx-ers only need to memorise user-friendly words such as ā€œFemaleā€ and ā€œMaleā€ without needing to know the value or segment ID 🤯.

The revamp includes a new menu option in the Supply tab: Key-Values. This will allow owner marketplaces and publishers to manage the translations for their own key values.

In order for all of this to be possible, we made some administrative changes in the efforts to define and translate the key values. The system will now also distinguish single and multi-publisher key values. This is a new concept which allows the same key value and its translations to be shared across multiple publishers within the same owner marketplace — keeping the management effort to a minimum.

New toggles to prevent mind boggles 🤯

When broadcasters and publishers would set up VAST video campaigns in smartx, they were able to flip a Consecutive Ad-Selection toggle that allowed a creative to run multiple times in the same stream and within the same ad pod.

While this targeting option was helpful for backfill, it always came with the potential of multiple ads playing in the same pod 😱. Users who were trying to memorize catchy commercial jingles found it useful but we needed an additional option for the rest.

So, to allow for more flexibility in the smartx platform, we separated the targeting options with two new Consecutive Ad-Selection toggles in creative management that:

  • Allow multi-selection within the same stream (switched on by default)
  • Allow multi-selection within the same ad pod (switched off by default)

This enables a creative to be delivered multiple times within a stream, but only once in an ad pod (though it is still possible to allow multiple ads to be delivered in the same ad pod if you really want to). Options. Who doesn’t lobe ā€˜em?

Pleasing brains since 2012,
