As the worlds of TV and digital converge, we thought it would be smart to make our HbbTV package compatible with our digital SDK.
Hello smartclippers [emphasis intentional],
As smartclippers, we got all the smarts. Our clips are smart, our x’s are smart, our grids are smart, our API’s are smart, our TVs are smart, our people are smart…
Heck, everything we do and create is smart 🤓!
So here’s the latest smart update…
Our HbbTV package is now compatible with the smartclip SDK, which to no surprise is known as smartclientcore.
For those of you who need a refresher, we took over STAF (SmartTV Advertising Framework) from IP Duitsland in 2016, using it to replace smartclip’s UTAI. No need to get caught up in the acronyms, just know that these smartclip products allowed video advertisements to run on connected smart TV devices.
Fast forward to today, and the world is powered by smart TVs (Good luck finding a “dumb” TV at the store), bringing TV and digital closer than ever before. We decided to consolidate our SDK by replacing STAF with smartclientcore, which helps us avoid double work on VAST parsing logic and the increasing complexity of the VAST standard. Smart move!
In addition to being the new base for our HbbTV package, the smartclientcore is also the base for our existing smartclip mobile SDKs (Android, iOS, and tvOS) as well as the smartclip Out-Stream player. The new HbbTV code is 100% unit tested and enables advertisements based on IAB standards. It focuses on processing VAST and does not include any graphical user interface. The code can be easily used in combination with a wide range of player technologies that can be controlled via an API.
The complete HbbTV/CE-HTML package consists of smartclientcore, a simple reference HbbTV App, and corresponding documentation.
The smartclientcore JavaScript library can be used for all platforms which allow JavaScript and (CE-)HTML/CSS for building smart TV apps, for example Samsung, LG, and many others.
How’s that for smart?
Yours in SDK updates and possibly quizzing you on how many times we said “smart” in this newsletter,
