Hey there smartxers,
Well, we did it! We made it through another weird year.
No, we’re not talking about the pandemic. We’re talking about another year full of these ridiculous product release notes. Can you imagine going back to the “before times” when your platform updates didn’t have a strange cartoon, cringey puns, or random topics that seemingly come from nowhere?
We can’t imagine going back either. Anyway, enjoy these platform updates before we chugga chugga choo choo into 2022! (Yep… we somehow just made this about trains.)

Rolling onto the platform are some nifty new features for Supply Ad Rules!
Number of ads in pod
In the Video Ad Settings section of the Ad Rules editor, it’s always been possible to define the maximum number of ads that should be shown in a pod for Standard ads. In tomorrow’s release, we’re extending this functionality to Duration based ads. In the example below, we want no more than 3 spots to be shown with a pod duration of 60 seconds:
Duration limits per ad
The Video Ad Settings section will also have a new Duration limits per ad field. Here, users can define the minimum and maximum length (in seconds) for ads within a pod. This applies to both Standard and Duration based settings.
The External Reference railroad 🛤️
The External Reference field for Demand Business Rules, used to help our publishers connect smartx data with their internal systems, is now available for the smart Booking API.
We’ve also added a new External Business Rule Reference dimension (API identifier: business_rule_external_reference) to the Reporting UI and smart Booking API.
Dimension caboose 🚂
- The existing Ad Product dimension (API identifier: ad_product) is now also available for Demand Business Rules.
- There is a new Ad Sub Product dimension (API identifier: ad_sub_product), available for both Direct Campaigns and Demand Business Rules.
