The last couple of months at smartclip were jam-packed with industry events, giving us the opportunity to share the latest insights on online video and Addressable TV advertising. Despite the pandemic, it’s clear that our industry continued to evolve in full force. Here are some highlights as to where we’ve been and what we’ve been up to!
Virtual: ADZINE Live
Sebastian Busse, Director Addressable TV, kicked off the event marathon on 21 October. Sebastian gave an outlook on opportunities for broadcasters and advertisers at ADZINE – Online Marketing & Adtech – News Magazin live. Ronny Lutzi from Foxxum GmbH, Chris Nuhn from video intelligence AG, and Prof. Dr. Sascha Hoffmann from Hochschule Fresenius joined him for a discussion on the digitisation of TV.

Munich: Medientage
Next up was Dr. Oliver Vesper, our Co-CEO and Managing Director Media & Operations, who spoke on 26 October at the MEDIENTAGE Special: “Connect! The Future of TV” conference. He discussed the digital future of the European TV market, covering the opportunities and challenges that advertisers and broadcasters face, and how to deal with the two fastest-growing channels — ATV and CTV.

Hamburg: VAUNET
In November, we launched our long-anticipated white paper, Addressable TV Advertising: New Opportunities for Advertisers to Reach European Audiences. On the 11th, Henning Schwandt, Executive Director Supply Europe, and Lisa-Theresia Rischke, Senior Sales Marketing Manager Europe, presented findings from our latest white paper in an ATV roundtable hosted and organised by the German media association VAUNET.

Stockholm: InhouseMediaDay
Also on 11 November, our colleagues from smartclip Nordics discussed the current trends and challenges of media buying at the very first InhouseMediaDay in Stockholm, presented by MediaMecca. Mathias Aspvid, Head of Sales Sweden, Celia Ralaimihoatra, Sales Manager Sweden, and Andreas Hawerfors, Sales Manager, were onsite at the Filmstaden Rigoletto, where the event was held.

Milan: Product Advisory Board
Heading south to Italy, from 11 to 12 November, our leadership team invited a select group of European broadcasting experts to smartclip’s annual Product Advisory Board to discuss the future of TV advertising across the continent. In Milan, a close circle of smartclip partners, TV industry insiders, and adtech experts came together for an exclusive knowledge exchange and updates on the latest learnings and developments on broadcaster adtech and adserver technology.
Hamburg: D3con
D3con, the annual programmatic advertising conference, took place on 23 November in Hamburg. Robert Scharni, Director Programmatic Integrations, took the stage to discuss the challenges and trends of programmatic in 2021, along with Lars Schlimbach from Deutsche Post and DHL, Karin Libowitzky from Accenture Interactive, and Klaus Ludemann from Outbrain.

Paris: HbbTV Symposium
The DVB’s HbbTV Symposium took place from 24-25 November 2021 in Paris. Sebastian Busse, Director Addressable TV, joined a high-profile panel to provide insight into the future of the digitised linear adbreak. Dr. Oliver Vesper, our Co-CEO and Managing Director Media & Operations, also made a virtual appearance to greet the audience. In his video message, he highlighted that while many TV markets continue to face obstacles implementing ATV advertising solutions, notable progress has been made across most European countries with significant technological advancements.

Madrid: Atresmedia Upfront
Our Co-CEO and MD Platform & Technology, Thomas Servatius, concluded our event marathon along with Maria Flores Portillo, Managing Director of Amobee, on 25 November. They presented the newly formed TechAlliance project at Atresmedia Upfront in Madrid. The TechAlliance combines the adtech technology of smartclip and Amobee to provide a broadcaster-centric, full stack digital TV advertising platform to the European market. Spoiler alert — Atresmedia announced plans to support the TechAlliance!
Talk about ending on a high note!
The worsening pandemic unfortunately caused us to cancel or postpone the events scheduled for December. Health and safety is our first priority, and we hope the situation improves in the new year so we can all meet again soon!
