Our Berlin office serves up waffles and kindness at the Caritas Pankow soup kitchen

At smartclip, we’re serious about adtech — but we’re also serious about giving back. Each year, every smartclipper is granted a Social Day, where smartclippers can take a fully paid day off to give back to their community in whatever way they see fit. As part of this initiative, our Berlin team recently swapped screens for spatulas and spent the day volunteering at the Caritas soup kitchen in Pankow.

Caritas regularly invites organisations to help out in their soup kitchen, and our task for the day was making waffle batter…lots of it. By the end of the day, our Chief Product Officer, Gloria Eichler, whipped up 20 litres of batter.

Before the baking began, we received a full introduction to the soup kitchen. We learned about its history, the services it offers (everything from a clothing department to weekly visits from a mobile dentist), and how volunteers run the place with heart and dedication.

Over two hours, roughly 200 guests walked through the soup kitchen’s doors, with many enjoying waffles for dessert. The day wrapped up with a shared cleanup, a cup of coffee, and a small thank-you from Caritas in the form of homemade tea.

“Overall, the day was not only exciting for us, but also very moving,” says Jennifer Müller, Office Manager at smartclip Berlin. “We were struck by the passion and joy with which the volunteers dedicate themselves to helping others.”

From knowledge-exchange events like smartweek and Strategy Days, to off-site retreats and Social Days, a smartclip year is full of ways to connect beyond the day-to-day, and make a difference while we’re at it.
