Insights from smartclip’s latest employee survey

Employee motivation remains a driving force behind company success across all industries. That’s what makes smartclip’s latest results from the Bertelsmann Employee Survey all the more impressive, with 97% of our workforce saying they’re ready to go the extra mile for the company. For the fourth consecutive year, responses from smartclip’s employees reaffirm that smartclip’s commitment to creating an exceptional, people-first work environment truly delivers.

The participation rate in the Employee Survey was once again high, with 97% of all smartclippers submitting an evaluation. This makes the results not only extremely accurate, but even more valuable to the company and its management. Christian Osterhues, Vice President People & Culture at smartclip, explains: “With an impressive participation rate of 97%, these outstanding results from our employee survey reflect the strong commitment and engagement of our team. High participation is crucial as it ensures that every voice is heard, highlighting the importance of open communication and collaboration in fostering a positive workplace culture. Together, we are building an environment where everyone can thrive and contribute to our shared success.”

The company saw very positive responses in almost all areas and maintained the already impressive results from the 2023 survey. Among the strong set of results are:

  • Safety: 100% say they feel safe from verbal and/or physical harassment
  • Autonomy: 99% think they have the autonomy to work in a flexible way
  • Motivation: 97% are prepared to go the extra mile for company success
  • Work: 96% say they like their work
  • Work-Like balance: 96% are able to maintain a healthy work-life balance.
  • Recommendation: 94% would recommend our company as a good employer to people they know.
  • Diversity: 94% feel diversity is valued and everyone feels included. An additional 94% say employees have the same opportunities in our company, regardless of their gender
  • Appreciation: 93% say they feel appreciated in our company

Additionally, the Employee Survey uses indices to track long-term results. smartclip scored excellent results in these fields as well. The Empowerment index, measuring autonomy, independence, responsibility, and good use of knowledge and skills, was rated at 91%. The Leadership index, which measures how well individual leadership manages their teams, scored 89%. The Learning Culture Index measures how well smartclippers can thrive and develop in their role, support for professional development, as well as learning opportunities and came in at 87%.

Now, the question arises: how did smartclip manage to get these results? One factor is the overall Corporate Culture at smartclip, which can be seen in comments frequently mentioning themes of flexibility, working atmosphere, cooperation, colleagues, working hours, working from home, appreciation, open communication, work-life balance, and trust.

“Our commitment to employee satisfaction is paramount,” says Christian Osterhues. “We keep the smartclip spirit up through our annual offsite and other internal events. Combined with our benefits and expertise in People & Culture, we are tirelessly working to offer the best environment for our smartclippers, and I am happy to see this reflected in these excellent results.”

While the results are impressive, smartclip recognises that growth is a continuous journey. The survey highlighted opportunities for improvement regarding ‘Environment and Climate’ and ‘Health & Well-being’ topics, resulting in a commitment from management to address these areas proactively. smartclip’s efforts are already making an impact: ‘Environment and Climate’ increased by 18 percentage points compared to the previous survey. Although an overall rating of 77% is positive, there is still more to do.

“I believe the most important takeaway from this survey is to listen to your employees, identify the areas that need improvement, and continuously strive for improvement in these areas”, says Christian Osterhues. “We are confident that we can improve further and are dedicated to the work ahead.”
