Internet Protocol TV (IPTV) is television delivered via the internet, usually through smart TVs or set-top boxes (STBs). Users can choose to stream live content, select time-shifted content from catch-up services, or select on-demand content from a multi-genre catalogue.
IPTV services deliver one programme at one time – sending the programme to the user’s device according to the user’s selection – and offer features such as pause and rewind.
IPTV contrasts with traditional delivery via terrestrial, cable, or satellite TV networks, where all content is broadcast at the same time and viewers can only watch shows according to a set schedule.
IPTV is also not the same as Internet TV, which is content delivered on a website via a broadband connection.
